High-temperature reactors, common in chemical processing, refining, and metallurgy, require robust sensors to monitor critical parameters under extreme conditions. Key sensors include:
Thermocouples: The most common choice, particularly types K (up to ~1260°C) and S/R (up to ~1480°C). They are durable, relatively inexpensive, and provide direct temperature readings essential for reaction control and safety.
Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs): Used for high-accuracy measurements in lower high-temperature ranges (typically up to ~600°C). They are ideal for processes where precise temperature control is critical.
Pressure Transmitters: Utilizing hardened alloys and specialized cooling elements (like diaphragm seals or purge systems), these sensors monitor reactor pressure, which is vital for controlling reaction rates and ensuring vessel integrity.
Non-Contact Infrared Pyrometers: These optical sensors measure temperature from a distance by detecting thermal radiation, perfect for extremely harsh environments or measuring the temperature of surfaces inside the reactor without physical contact.
